At Speak_ , we believe that there are underrepresented candidates qualified and worthy of great roles in tech. We connect these candidates to employers that are hungry for technical talent and looking to build inclusive teams to serve a global marketplace.
We partner with small to large tech companies to identify particular skill sets that match their open roles. We then identify promising students and recent graduates with computer science degrees or related backgrounds and offer them a free, intensive, 4-week, cohort-based training program to help them sharpen these skill sets.
Program participants work alongside a community of peers to create accountability, facilitate learning, and allow them to hone the vital skills necessary to work in teams. There are 3 components of our programs...
Content
Candidates engage with role-specific educational content including courses, coding challenges, videos, and articles.
Community
Candidates can chat with a cohort of peers and engage in pair programming and mock interviews.
Events
Hosted AMAs, office hours, and online assessment practice sessions help get candidates comfortable with your process.
About the role
The Program Director - Software Engineering will be responsible for accelerating our community of engineering candidates throughout the entire candidate experience -- from being accepted to our cohort program to receiving an offer from a partner company.
We're looking for someone who…
Is active in engineering or inclusive online communities (whether that’s on Twitter, Reddit, Discord, or elsewhere)
Is comfortable leading large online workshops
Is capable of wrangling large groups of people, while making individuals feel supported and seen
Is comfortable wearing a lot of hats; we’re a startup, so each of us, including the founders, do everything from high-level, strategic tasks to straight-up data entry
Is a proactive communicator who will fearlessly send a text message to over 100 peopleWill take responsibility for the success of our program candidates during the program and truly care about their experience

You'll manage the candidate program experience from start to finish. This includes:
Onboarding candidates
Shepherding candidates through completion of the 4-week program, including course modules, projects, and assignments
Helping candidates explore and understand opportunities with different partner companies
Preparing candidates for interviews with partner companies
Proactively report on and facilitate candidate progress
Create and manage the program schedule, including event planning
Manage our community leader program to facilitate programming language-specific pods (smaller groups within the larger cohort)
Lead candidate communication including reminders, logistics, and support
Constantly improve our program curriculum and processes to prepare more candidates for more opportunities, including incorporating feedback from partner companies
Requirements
Someone who has worked in the tech industry
Experience training or coaching software engineers
Has attention to detail and is diligent about creating and documenting processes
A multitasker with strong time management skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment
A collaborative, proactive problem solver
A persuasive communicator and effective listener
